Сценарий выступления на конкурсе Bookworms - the picture of Dorian Gray
1. -Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. I’m Tanya.
–My name is Nastya
–I’m Ann.
-We are rather different, but we have a lot in common
-We are the pupils of the 6th grade Gymnasium #4.
-We are 12-year-old girls
-We all like to read.
-We would like to tell you about one of the most provocative books of the Victorian age.
-But before speaking about the author let’s say, what the Victorian age is.
-It was the time of Britain’s prosperity. It was the time of big hopes and great inventions. It was the time of precisianism and strict moral laws.
2 -And it was the time when Oscar Wilde wrote his famous Picture of Dorian Gray.
-People called it a terrible book, an immoral book.
- But as its extraordinary author says, there is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written or badly written.
-Oh, he was an unusual man, a spokesman for aestheticism, a playwright, a poet, a writer, a lecturer, a linguist.
-Actually in my opinion, he was a miserable man. The book we discuss influenced his life deeply. As Oscar puts it, Basil Hallward is what I think I am: Lord Henry is what the world thinks me: Dorian is what I would like to be—in other ages, perhaps
-Well, I totally agree to your point of view. Like Basil, Oscar Wilde suffered treachery from his best friend. Like Dorian, he regrets some actions he has done. Like Lord Henry, he believes in beauty.
-The book is not as simple as it seems. It’s a product of Oscar’s deep philosophical thoughts. We can notice the motives of Shakespeare’s plays, Goethe’s Faust and many other books.
-Well, let’s watch the problem the book discusses.
3.
4.D-Where am I? What is happening? The last thing I remember is the portrait and the knife I stuck in it. Then there was pain… And nothing.
A-You are dead. Now the trial is going to take place and we’ll decide what your verdict will be.
D-Dead? Are you kidding? Henry, is that you? Can you ever be serious? Stop your silly jokes. It’s not funny.
Demon-It’s no joke. You are really dead.
Dor-But I just wanted to change myself destroying the portrait.
Dem-And you destroyed your own soul.
An-I wanted to learn you how to live a good life. I’ve sent you Bazil to how the beauty of your soul in the portrait.
Dor-I couldn’t stand seeing my beautiful face growing old and the picture remaining young forever.
Dem-He envied his own soul. How cute it is. Envy is the first mortal sin. Everything begins with envy.
An-But Bazil wanted to help you and you ignored him.
Dor-He was boring, I was bored, That’s all.
Dem-I’ve told you thousand times, evil is more attractive.
Dor – I didn’t want to be evil. I wanted to be beautiful. The most beautiful.
Dem – Have you heard? Vanity is the second mortal sin that destroys a human soul. Your idealistic artist can’t cope with human passions.
An – then I tried to save you through pure love of Sybil Vane.
Dor – She was a bad actress. I wasn’t interested in such simple girls.
Dem – Do you say love? It wasn’t love. It was lust. People can’t fall in love.
An – poor Sybil died at the age of 17. And it is your fault.
Dor – it was a suicide, not a murder. Just a mistake.
An And what will you say about Bazil’s death? Didn’t you kill him with your own hand?
Dor – Well… it was the knife, not me.
Dem – Well, I should say that he is right to some degree. Wrath prevents people from controlling their feelings and emotions and that’s… great. For us, demons, of course.
Dor – you say it is all my fault. And why did James Vane hunt me like a wild animal?
An – it was the last sign to change your life.
Dem – It was too late. Sloth, gluttony, avarice as well as other 4 sins are not forgiven. Just admitit, angel. You couldn’t save him. His soul is mine.
Dor – No, please, don’t do it. Don’t send me to hell. I wanted to change myself, I let the girl in the countryside go… Listen… Lord Henry gave me advices. I believed him. Isn’t death enough?
Dem- Well, and what would you do with a man like you?
Dor-Well… I… I would give him chance to change everything. And let him go…
Dem – You see, angel, he lies. All his life was a lie. It is no regret. He just tries to save himself.
An – this time I agree with you. He deserves punishment and sufferings.
Dem - And he will suffer.
An – We decided to give you an opportunity to prove that your words are sincere.
Dor – What? And… what should I do?
Dem-If you don’t want to suffer in the afterlife, to be in pain forever, unable to cope with it or feel relief, then… you’ll return to the Earth. Remember, you must be kind and good and helpful even if it seems impossible.
An - In this farewell There is no blood,
There is no alibi, 'Cause I've drawn regret
From the truth Of a thousand lies.
So let mercy come And wash away
[Chorus:]
What I've done. I'll face myself
To cross out What I've become.
Erase myself And let go of What I've done.
[Verse 2:]
Put to rest What you thought of me,
While I clean this slate With the hands
Of uncertainty. So let mercy come
And wash away What I've done.
-So Dorian lost his fortune, beauty and youth. He has to beg with an outstretched hand and pray for all the people, even for violent and evil ones.
- This book made us think about serious things. What is better, good and honest life or beauty and success? How much do our actions influence our life?
-If you want to read a really thought-provoking book, take The picture of Dorian Gray.

Сценарий презентации Three men in a boat
Sl 1. M-Hello, my dear ladies and gentlemen. My name is Jerome Klapka Jerome, and these are my friends, Harris, George and my dear dog Montmorency.
K-Actually, my name is Kate, these are my classmates Mary, Axana and Julia. We study at 7th grade Gymnasium #4 and like to read very much. And we want to tell you about the book we’ve just read.
M-Stop it. You’ve ruined everything. You are always messing it up.
A-Let’s agree. When we have moustaches, we are Harris. George and Jerome. And when we are without them, we are school girls. Agree? Wonderful. Continue, Jerome.
Sl. 2 M- I’m the author of many interesting and funny books… Well, I believe, you’ve heard about three men in a boat. It’s my novel. I hope you’ll enjoy it if you haven’t read it yet. I worked as an actor, a journalist and a writer.
Sl 3. M- I have wonderful friends… There are 3 of us.
This is George. He is a lot of fun, my old friend. He sleeps at the bank from 10 till 4 o’clock from Monday to Friday. He says he is working there… but don’t believe him. Such a coach potato.
A-And this is Harris. He always tells everybody what to do and they do all the work.
K-Our dog Montmorency doesn’t like peace and quiet. He prefers noise. But he looks so well-behaved.
M-When he first came to live with me I thought that he wouldn’t be with me long, because he was too good for this world. But when he killed 12 chickens, a cat… And I pulled him out of a hundred and fourteen street fights… Then I changed my ideas about Montmorency.
4.M-So, my comedy novel was something marvelous. It was about our trip along the river Thames.
A-Stop speaking about you. We all had this experience. Let me tell everything. I’m really good in story-telling. It is one of the things I do best.
M-So, continue, my friend. He’s really very modest, old George.
A-At first we packed our things. Just some items, that made our life on the river more comfortable. A big suitcase, a small bag, two baskets, several blankets, some fruit pans, umbrellas, coats and raincoats.
K-Then we went to bed and somebody promised to wake us up.
A- Really? I can’t remember.
K-Yes, and this somebody didn’t do it.
A-Anyway, we started our trip. And I towed you all the way.
K-No, it was I who was pulling the rope.
M-Stop arguing, boys. We all worked well. I love work. I like to collect it in my study. I like to watch people working. I’m fond of work, really.
A-And do you remember our first morning? What a nice bathe you had.
M-I wish you joined me.
A-Thanks, the water seemed too cold and wet. So we are proud of you, brave boy.
M-I liked the moment when I dropped your shirt in the river.
A-It wasn’t funny, Jerome.
M- I think it was.
K-I think you agree with me that our journey was great even though we came home by train.
M-Come on, you shouldn’t have said so. It is our little secret.
A-They won’t tell anybody. Please, don’t reveal our secret, ok? Thank you, ladies and gentlemen.
5. J- We like this book very much because it is so humorous and exciting.
A-We recommend it to those who like books about clumsy, but cute people. Read it and… well, you may recognize yourself in some characters.
